A Welcome Message from Dean Richard Foley

Arts and Science is the intellectual core of any major university, and New York University is no exception. At NYU, Arts and Science is by some distance the largest academic unit. It is made up of 37 different departments and almost 700 faculty members, organized into three divisions (Humanities, Science, and Social Science), a Graduate School of Arts and Science, and an Undergraduate College of Arts and Science.

John Sexton, NYU’s President, has declared that the University’s single highest priority is Arts and Science. NYU Arts and Science has improved as dramatically as any other arts and science school in the country over the last twenty years, but no one is ready to declare a success. The goal is to create one of the handful of truly great arts and science schools in the world.

The Arts and Science Board of Overseers plays a leading role in this effort. The Board meets regularly to advise and work with the Dean of Arts and Science on identifying the resources to build state-of-the-art academic facilities, attract leading faculty from the around the world, and provide  students with the financial assistance they need. The members of the Arts and Science Board of Overseers contribute not only with their generosity but also with their involvement with programs, faculty, and students and with their efforts to engage other alumni and friends.

It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the extraordinary men and women who constitute the Arts and Science Board of Overseers.
